Frequently asked questions

What is Segway PT?

Segway PT was invented by Dean Kamen in 2001. On Good Morning America he showed the world the amazing capabilities of “the world’s first self-balancing human transporter.” The Segway PT has two wheels and can stand upright all by itself. It is a self-balancing machine that operates almost like a car.

What if I've never done this?

Great! We cannot wait to teach you! There is no experience required to ride our Segway PT's. Our fully trained guides will teach you how to operate the Segway PT safely and efficiently.

How long is the tour?

The tour takes 1.5 hour. The Segway PT training before includes a 13-minute video and about a 15 minute training session depending on the skills of the Segway PT rider. For more information about the tour

Are there physical requirements or limitations?

Participants should be in average physical condition. Our tour requires basic balance and full range of motion to negotiate. We are not medical professionals and therefore ask that you take your personal situation under consideration prior to booking a tour. Pregnant women are not allowed to take the tour because of our concern for the safety of the mother and child. If you have a medical or heath concern it is advised that you consult a physician to help decide if you are healthy enough to participate. There is a weight limit. Participants need to weigh at least 100 pounds and under 260 pounds.

Is there an age limit?

To rent a Segway PT participants need to be at least 16+ years old with a parent. To take the tour, children must be at  16 years old and be accompanied by a parent.

What should I bring?

We have little backpacks on all of our Segway PT's. You can bring along your personal belongings if they can fit inside. Cameras, cell-phones, small purses can all fit inside the backpack. We recommend wearing sunscreen and bug spray and having it fully applied prior to the tour. We suggest having a water bottle in case you get thirsty along the tour.

Should I make reservations?

Yes! Making a reservation assures that you will be on our tour. We never know how many people will walk-in before the tour. Since we only take a max number of 8 people on a tour that means space is limited. While we will accommodate walk-ins as able, the only way to be assured of a spot on one of our tours is with an advance reservation. You can make a reservation by giving us a call at (802) 281-6394.

What should I wear?

It is advised that you wear comfortable clothing and closed shoes. No sandals. Helmets are required and are provided.

How large are the tour groups?

The maximum size of a tour group is 8 people.

Do you operate tours in the rain?

We go rain or shine. However, we will not go out if it is lightening or thundering out

What is your cancellation policy?

For reserved tours-24 hour cancelation required, for full refund.  If you do not call or show-up for your tour you will be unable to get a refund.  Inclement weather conditions may delay the start of a trip.  If you cannot wait, or if Quechee Segway PT cancels a trip because the weather is not conducive to our tour, a full refund will be given.

What happens in the training?

The training consists of a 13 minute video on Segway PT's and Segway PT safety. After that we take you to our training area and teach you how to ride a Segway PT. We go over stopping, starting, going forward and backward, turning, going up and down hills, and how to maneuvor over rocks/sticks/bumps.
